About Shannon & John
New York-based duo Shannon Brown & John Walsh weave together Celtic traditional music and American roots music as a way to honor their respective musical backgrounds.
Shannon Brown grew up in rural Appalachia, where she was influenced by classic country and gospel music. She earned a BFA in musical theater, worked regionally in the United States and Japan for years as an actor and music director and performed a one-woman show, "Moonshine Martinis" at the Laurie Beechman Theater and Don't Tell Mama in New York City. Shannon’s band, Trailer Radio, performed across the New York City area for over a decade and produced two country rock albums.
John Walsh comes from Kilkenny, Ireland, where he developed his fingerpicking guitar style through years of playing traditional music. He's become an active member of New York's Irish music scene, performing with artists like Paddy Keenan, Brian Conway, and groups including Jameson's Revenge and The Guilty Losers. He has released three solo albums: "aon dó trí," "arís," and "noreside."
Their collaboration draws on the historical connections between Irish traditional music and American country. Together, they blend elements from both traditions while staying true to their musical roots.
